In 1914, my great grandfather and 8 of his 10 children emigrated from the Netherlands to Michigan. Two remained in the Netherlands. The economy had collapsed and WW1 had begun, and they lived close to the German border (Enschede). My mother's side: Again my great grandfather emigrated from Grafschaft Bentheim, Prussia in 1882, 50 km east of my father's side in the Netherlands. I emigrated back to the Netherlands in 1989, for my own reasons, economic, social and political. But lately, the Netherlands is resembling the U.S. way too much.....
